A friend is a person

...The reason why i chose this poem was because I just liked it. Its like a definition for friendship and how friendship it feels like with a best friend...and this is a descriptive poem, which i really like...

This term I wasn't challenged enough, because some of the topics and subjects we did this term were easy.

Reading was challenging because I didn't know how to infer. Maths was alright because i found it a bit easy. Language was easy because what we were learning was what i already knew, and spelling was hard because I'm not much of a good speller.

Next term one of my goals is to really challenge myself and be focused.

Some of my goals for this year were to challenge myself and become a good role model. But at the middle of the year I changed and became a bad role model by getting in trouble by 3 teachers! But now (at the end of the term) I have really changed, and started being a better role model to little kids.

This term I have also become a better reader and writer...which I would like to continue doing next term.

A leader is someone who rules, guides or inspires others. They make a difference in the world or in people’s lives. A good & inspiring leader is someone like Martin Luther King.

Martin Luther King was a great leader because he stood up for what he believed in & he also inspired others in a good way. He inspired people to stand up for their rights and beliefs.

Martin Luther King was someone who guided black people from slavery to their rights. He wanted the black & white people to be equal in life and he also wanted to make a huge difference in slavery.

So that’s why I strongly believe that Martin Luther King was a very inspiring and motivating leader.

Reading– My goal for reading is to move up to 16+, and improve in my inferencing skills... I will do this by focusing more during reading and working on inferencing.

Math’s- My goal for math’s is to challenge myself and work on my weaknesses...I will do this by focusing on what I need to work on.

Language– My goal for language is to improve my handwriting (even though it’s pretty!)...I will do this by copying how Miss Wright does it.

Inquiry– My goal for inquiry is to share my ideas more and work as a team with my group...I will do this by being confident.

PE- My goal for PE is to risk-take and try my very best…I will do this by being confident and not caring about what others will think.

Sports- My goal for sports is to join into a sport this year (Hockey)…I will do this by being confident and risk-taking.

Spelling- My goal for spelling is to become a better speller…I will do this by focusing on spelling.

High school is hard, with all the homework for different subjects, running around looking for your classes, meeting new people, making new friends, changing teachers, and changing classes. It can be a pain, but with confidence and ideas, you can get through it.

One of the characteristics I will need next year is to be a good writer because in college everything isn’t just about looking or hearing, it’s also about writing. Writing essays, biographies, stories, and things like that. If you’re not a good writer in high school, your essays and strories wont compare to someone elses, who might be a better writer than you. You’ll mostly fail in English and wont be able to pass in the English subject. So that’s why I strongly believe that I need to become a good writer before leaving to high school.

The second characteristic that I will need next year is taking responsibility. Because in college you have to be the one who is responsible for handing in your homework, being organised, coming to school on time and not getting detention. You have to be the one who is responsible for your own self, whether it means making changes or not.

The third characteristic that I will need next year is studying hard because college isn’t easy. If you study hard in college you’re sure to succeed, but if you don’t study your hardest and your best, then you’re sure to fail in life. Studying hard equals to success and not studying at all equals to not succeeding.

These 3 characteristics will help me a lot next year in college because they relate to high school criteria. They will also help me succeed in college and make me a great learner.

Hi, my name is Faaria. I'm 12 years old, and i am a yr 8 student at Viscount School. I was born on the beautiful & gorgeous island of Fiji in Suva, where the ocean shimmers brightly everyday and the sky's always blue. I was born on the 28th of March 1996. (28/03/96) I enjoy hanging out with my friends & also playing sports such as, Hockey & Tennis. I have a Dad, a Mum, an older Brother, and no sisters (which makes me really sad, but at least i have my cousins & friends...which to me, are like sisters.) Some of my characteristics are: Smart, Kind, Helpful, Reliable (sometimes), Trustworthy, Honest (most of the time!), sometimes Funny and good company...(well in my opinion anyways!) My favorite player in the 'All Blacks' is...Richard Kahui & Joe Rokocoko, my favorite actor is Will Smith & Paul Walker. My favorite wrestler is...John Cena and my favorite soccer player is...David Beckham. These people are my favorite because they all are just like "...Woah..." in different ways. My favorite color is Blue and Green, because to me these colors stand out. My bestest friend in the world is Salu, and we have been friends since last year in 2007. We share many characteristics and love to watch Fiji & Samoa beat NZ in rugby! "...Diving into the deep blue sea..."

AS I LOOKED DOWN INTO THE POWERED BLUE OCEAN, THE SOUND OF PECKISH AND STARVING SEAGULLS SURROUNDED ME. IT FELT LIKE THEY WERE SCREAMING AND CRAVING FOR RAW FLESH. AS I LEAPED INTO THE GLOOMY OCEAN, I FELT LIKE A SEAGULL THAT HAD JUST GOT SHOT BY A HUNTER, FALLING INTO THE DEAD SEA. AS A SCHOOL OF FISH SWAM AHEAD OF ME, I FOLLOWED TO SEE WHERE THEY LED. THROUGH THE CORAL, PASS THE STINGRAYS & INTO A DARK CAVE. AS I GOT CLOSER TO THE CAVE, I REALISED I WAS OUT OF AIR.

...The reason why i wrote this poem is because i wanted my audience to feel what it is like to scuba dive in the deep blue ocean. I want also wanted them to imagine the fishes, coral, and underwater life...

As I dream upon a star,
As I dive into a lake,
As I shimmer in the dark,

As I cry upon disgrace,

As I jump into a crowd,

As I scream in delight,

I feel the time go passing by.

I see the sunset and the moon disappear,

and feel the vibration of the atmosphere.
